The List: Foyer/Hallway Edition
Quite a bit has been happening around here lately on the renovation/redecorating front. To start, we replaced all of our second floor hallway doors. The previous doors were really, really, really sad. I mean “hollow core, bi-fold door on the bathroom” sad. Yes, we lived like that for two years because changing them out was definitely not a DIY job.
It took much longer than the contractor thought because of the uneven floors and because of my desire to keep the original molding & trim. In the end, I am very satisfied with them, and once they were done, it was finally time to paint the hallway!
Excited doesn’t even begin to explain how I felt about painting the hallway with Sherwin Williams’ Sea Salt. I talked about my paint selection here, and I couldn’t be happier with it. I still need to paint the first floor hallway the same color and paint the stairwell (which calls for either an adjustable ladder or scaffolding and a paint sprayer) white – Origami White by Sherwin Williams, to be exact.
While the paint rollers were out, I also painted my master bedroom Gibraltar by Sherwin Williams (can you tell they were having a sale???).
The color is great and goes along with the sultry & relaxing theme I’m trying to accomplish in this room. I also started on a mirror collage in the room, as well. Here it is in it’s infancy. I still need to paint a few of the mirrors and add more, but I’m really feeling it. I also have grand plans for the vanity/desk area there, which involves lacquering the desk. Stay tuned!
I’ve also had a chance to hang my Cozamia print (in a completely different place than I purchased it for). I was originally waiting to get it professionally framed, but this temporary “housing” works for me considering I’d rather enjoy the art on the walls instead of leaving it in storage. (Yes, the walls still need to be painted and the stairs need to be refinished, but please ignore all that.)
The swan print has been placed on the entryway console. I still need to get a custom mat for it because the opening of the mat that came with this frame is a bit too small and covers more of the picture than I’d like. I’ve also worked on styling the console a bit by changing out the lamps (still undecided on if I like them here), testing the size of a DIY art piece I have planned (hence the blank canvas), and moving some of the accessories around. I just bought a really nice brass tray from the thrift store that I think would be great here for corralling mail.
Here’s a punch list of the remaining things that need to be done in the foyer/hallway/stairway area. (in no particular order).
- Paint foyer walls
- Paint foyer ceiling
- Stencil foyer (?)
- Build radiator cover
- Paint stairway walls
- Strip & paint on stair risers
- Sand & stain/paint stair treads
- Paint hallway trim
Slowly but surely, I’m chipping away at it. In my quest to handle a full plate, I’ve learned that I work best when I can see things really being accomplished, so I’ve decided to focus on one area at a time before moving onto the next. That makes me feel like I’ve accomplished a lot and motivates me to do more.
