{Lesson Learned} Essential Painting Tools

As I mentioned last week, there’s been a whole lot of painting going on around here. I don’t mind the task of painting at all, but when trying to paint several areas in a short span of time, it can become arduous, to say the least.
Here is a roundup of tools I like to use to help me get the job done quickly:

1) Between my husband and myself, I’m hands-down the best at cutting in trim and moldings. I don’t typically use painter’s tape, so to make quick work of it, my go-to tool of choice is a small angled paintbrush. The one I use is the ShortCut by Wooster. It has a comfortable grip, the size is suitable for cutting in, and the angled tip helps with getting into tight corners.

2) Since there’s quite a bit of painting going on, it’s just not feasible or cost effective to use a different paint tray for each and every project. For that reason, I always line the paint tray with aluminum foil. That way, when the project is done, clean up is a cinch. All I have to do is carefully remove the foil, toss it, and move on to the next paint color.

3) Choosing the right paint roller can also cut down on the frustration painting can cause. Using the best roller for your wall surface is key. If you have highly textured walls, using a roller with a high nap will ensure paint gets into all the nooks and crevices. If your walls are relatively smooth, choose a roller with a low nap to maintain as smooth a finish as possible. Foam rollers are best for smooth surfaces.

4) High quality paint also makes the job of painting much easier. The higher the quality, the higher the pigmentation of your paint. The higher the pigmentation, the fewer the coats needed for full coverage.
