Kitchen Dreams Becoming Reality

Did Restoration Hardware know that I’m beginning to get my kitchen mojo back or what? This past weekend, I caught an amazing sale on the pulls & knobs that I’ve been loving for years. Years!

RH-Duluth-Knob-&-Pull

The Duluth pulls & knobs were 50-60% off in the antique brass finish! Because of the price, I had almost given up on getting them from Restoration Hardware. No other manufacturer makes such perfection, yet I have seen some close contenders. Though my search continued, I always held out hope that they would go on some kind of sale so I check the RH emails every time one pops up in my inbox, just in case. On Thursday, I got an email saying they were having Spring savings of up to 20% off everything. I figured it was worth a shot to look at the reduced prices. Imagine my surprise when I saw these reduced at a deep 50-60% discount! (Btw, all of their hardware is reduced by about 20%, and the antique brass is an even deeper discount. I can’t imagine they would be discontinuing it, but who knows..)

When I went Googling for images of kitchens using this hardware, I was shocked to find a kitchen almost exactly like the one that’s been floating around in my head for quite some time. This is seriously the kitchen I’ve dreamed about since before buying this house. What?!

Check out the full makeover here. It’s pretty good.

I seriously took this as a sign from God and ordered the hardware right away. God is real, people! Trust me.

The combination of that cute TJ Maxx rug I talked about last week and the great deal on this hardware has me really excited to get this room done!

Now lets talk details for a minute.

Kitchen Details

1.  I chose the antique brass finish because I love all things brass – not that shiny, bright yellow brass.  Nope.  I love uncoated, satiny, brass with some patina. Just like my étagère. This antique brass finish is just that! Not too bright. Not too yellow. Just right.

I plan to use them in my kitchen in an unconventional placement that may have some turning their noses up. I also gladly welcome the brass finish right up against the other stainless steel items in my kitchen. Some may turn their noses up at that, too, but whatevs…. Just like I love color, plants, and leopard, I love mixing metals. When done well, it just makes every room better and provides a collected, eclectic look.

2.  This is the lighting I’m going with for over the sink. I’ve always loved schoolhouse pendants and thought I would use one in my kitchen, but this pendant stole my heart. It’s the brass cap and globe pendant from Shades of Light….take a moment and look at it again….I know, it’s that good, right?

Speaking of lighting, I’m really trying to figure out what we’ll do about it. We have a huge fluorescent fixture in the middle of the room (too close to the fridge in my opinion). Of course, we’ll switch it out for something else, but I really feel like lighting over in the corner above the kitchen table would be nice. For that (and for the under cabinet lighting), we would need to call in an electrician. But if I have something hanging over there, would a flush mount fixture look like “too much” in the center of the kitchen? Pot lights would be ideal, but I don’t think that’s in the budget considering there’s plaster involved. We shall see.

3.  I know I said I would paint those thrift chairs and I still will, but I truly have my heart set on some Parisian café chairs. They’re just perfection, in my opinion. I recently found out that Overstock sells them for considerably less than most places. They tend to sell out every so often, so I’ll be watching them like a hawk. I’m just working on getting them into the budget before I pull the trigger…

4.  Wood shelving is now a must. Period. I was entertaining the white Ikea Lack shelves because my husband would have been more comfortable with them. But now that I have an actual image to show him of how good all this will look together, wood shelving with stainless steel brackets it will be.  Dana’s are pretty awesome, too (pictured above).

I know that was a lot in one post but I really am excited to round the corner on this one, and I promise the next update post will have some actual pictures of my kitchen.  I’m even taking some time off work to finish up the cabinet and wall painting.  Can’t wait!
