What’s Up With the Kitchen?

Kitchen Plans - In Progress

Just the other day, a friend asked how everything is moving along in our kitchen renovation. The truth is not much is going on in there at all. I’ve allowed the One Room Challenge to have my full attention for a while.  I feel like I just needed a mental break from it, for some reason. The list of things needed to complete the space isn’t too long and we have all of the supplies on hand, with the exception of a few pieces of plywood. I just needed to take a step back from it to reassess some things, namely the flooring.

Originally, we wanted to go with a ceramic tile with a wood grain finish, but I’m not so sure that’s the best direction for this space. That idea bores me just a bit. I would actually love to do some kind of painted floors in the kitchen. Probably not the most practical, but definitely the most “Kim” option.
I mean. Come on. Just look at these examples of beautifully painted floors…

Any of these would be better than the stained vinyl tiles that are there now.

By the way, I found this little rug at TJ Maxx last week and snatched it up right away. It sums up my color scheme for the kitchen in a nutshell. And at $12, this little baby was certainly speaking my language!

I plan to paint some thrifted wooden chairs in a color similar to the green/chartreuse. Though the cabinets will be navy blue, I think the turquoise is a nice complement, along with the taupes and creams in the rug.

I realize these two new elements (painted wooden chairs & painted floor) completely change the entire feel of the room, but it would be much more in line with my overall style.
