Succulent Terrariums
I’m really digging these new terrariums from West Elm ( and this…and this…and I’ve had a long-time love affair with this, but I digress). They look so great with succulents planted inside.
I actually tried my hand at my first succulent terrarium some time ago. Actually, mine is more of a succulent garden. It’s held up pretty well for about 2 months now, but the jury is out on the kalanchoe (the one on the right, also called a paddle plant). It started dropping leaves and looking a bit sad about a week ago.
Any who, it was really easy to put together. I just picked up a few plants from Home Depot, and used a glass dish I got on clearance from Hobby Lobby. I took a que from Jenny and painted the inside a pretty pale lime color which really picks up on the color scheme in my living room right now. To assemble the succulent garden, I spread a layer of small rocks, to help keep the roots from sitting in water, and I topped that with a thin layer of cactus & succulent planting mix. Once I settled all the plants into their positions, I filled in around them with more planting mix. Easy peasy!
If the kalanchoe doesn’t make it, I’ll see if I can dig him out and replace him with something else. If all else fails, Hobby Lobby has a great selection of faux succulents that look really real. *Kanye shrug*
