{Color Cues} Benjamin Moore’s Witching Hour

Benjamin Moore’s Witching Hour has been haunting (pun intended) me for quite some time.  I just didn’t actually know it was Witching Hour that was doing the “haunting”.  Allow me to explain….

I’ve been planning a kitchen redesign (more to come on that later) and finally settled on a navy/charcoal color for the bottom cabinets and white for the upper cabinets with aged brass pulls & knobs, or possibly white porcelain knobs with aged brass backplates, but I digress.  This vision has been living in my head for months, and then BAM!  Just like that, I see my vision in reality.

This is the exact cabinet color I’m going for! It’s dark and moody (and you know I’m really into that), yet not so dark that it screams “black”, even though it is in the black paint color family.  I’ve seen this feature on The Marion House Book before.  How could I have let it slip under the radar of my brain?  This looks like the perfect navy blue with great charcoal gray undertones.  In reading the comments, I realized the color is Benjamin Moore’s Witching Hour.

Then, in the middle of a paint organization blitz last week, I realized I had an unlabeled gallon of paint that we scored for free last summer from the Habitat for Humanity ReStore, which is a really awesome place you should check out if you have one near you.  Since I need to have everything meticulously labeled, I set about finding the actual paint name so I could properly label the can.  The color number was written on the can, along with a tattered paint chip that only had the color number, as well.  After a bit of research, I realized the color is Witching Hour!  How random is that?!?!?

I wasn’t able to find too many good pics of the color, but I’m hoping it’s not too dark for our kitchen considering we don’t get a lot of natural light in that room (or anywhere in my house, for that matter).  I’m not opposed to black kitchen cabinets, but I want ours to really “say” charcoal navy.  I did try the color out on a small impromptu project earlier this week (which I will reveal soon), and I’m thinking that having the paint store lighten it a bit might be a good option.
