Drapery Decisions: Inverted Box Pleats vs. Pinch Pleats
One element of the living/dining room design is custom linen drapes. I’ve been dreaming of these babies since long before we even bought our house, so needless to say, I’m really excited. Since custom drapes can cost a pretty penny, I’ll be tackling them myself. I’ve already ordered the fabric for my drapes for the One Room Challenge, but I must admit it’s taken me a while to narrow down what type of heading I would like. While I do appreciate the simplicity of a flat panel (especially since I’ll be sewing them), I wanted something that would make a slightly more glamorous statement, something like pinch pleats. However, standard pinch pleats don’t quite fit my vision for this space, so I began to do some research.
There are a million and one types of drapery headings to choose from, but I knew I wanted the drapes to look tailored and modern with neatly stacked pleats down the full length of the drape. That’s where the picture of these amazing inverted box pleat drapes come in.
They look so dreamy to me and are exactly what I’m envisioning. I favor the drapes more when they look the same from top to bottom, like in the inspiration pic above, as opposed to being more loose and flowy towards the bottom. Though we don’t actually open and close our drapes much,I’m guessing I’ll have to train the fabric so they return back to the stacked pleats without too much fussing.
I think I’m going to need a pretty awesome playlist or RHONJ marathon to get through sewing 8 of these babies!
