One Room Challenge AGAIN!: Week 1

I’ve decided to take the plunge again and participate in Linda’s One Room Challenge!  There are many, many places in my house that I could have chosen to work on for the next 6 weeks, but I chose the living/dining room area.  It’s one long room and it’s one of the first things you see as you enter my home.  Therefore, I really want to get it “finished” or at least to a point where I’m proud of what it looks like.

Let’s get on to the ‘Befores’, shall we?  This is what the spaced looked like when we bought it.

And here it is now – my living & dining room area, which is not wowing me at all.  (These photos are actually from April, but everything pretty much still looks the same.)

It’s definitely not terrible, but it’s not quite representative of our style or the message we’d like our home to convey.  What is that message? I’m so glad you asked!

This is the mood I envision for the space.  I want it to feel very sophisticated, glamorous, but also very comfortable and functional at the same time.  We hang out in this space just about all day, so though I’m going for glam, I still don’t want to feel like we can’t put our feet up and relax in this space.

So what do you think?  Check out what everyone else is doing here.  Also, I have a Pinterest board here where I’m collecting inspiration pics and sources.  I’ll be sharing more specifics next week….

I too am participating in the One Room Challenge. My challenges? I just moved to a completely new state (Texas) last week and therefore have no idea where to source things other than Wal Mart and Home Depot. 🙂 I am currently battling strep throat and just want to lay around and eat soup as opposed to painting a 30 year old polyurethaned oak coffered ceiling that has never before seen paint. The accompanying powder room rivals the worst gas station stall ever. But a bonus is that the previous owners installed a wine glass and bottle holder on the ceiling of the bathroom. I kid you not. Come take a peek.

  4. You have a beautiful canvas to start with and some really great pieces. I love where you’re headed and look forward to watching the space evolve. I have a similar living room: long and narrow and the first thing you see. I’ve been avoiding it because I can’t gain perspective so I’m working on my kitchen instead. I’ll be linking up as well. Good luck!
